Prices as of August 2026 and volatile. The pattern across retailers is a 26% to 48% increase in a single month, driven by the same constraint hitting every high-VRAM part: the memory is the expensive half of the card, and there is not enough of it.
The practical consequence for readers is narrower than “GPUs got expensive.” It is that the number in nearly every article about this card is wrong. The B70 is written up everywhere as “$949 for 32GB,” because that is what it cost when the reviews were written. The Comparison That Decides It
At $949 the B70 answered a question no other card could. At $1,299 it is answering the same question as the R9700, for the same money.

Read that table as a price ladder for software, not silicon. Four cards deliver 32GB. They span roughly 25x in price, and the price tracks how well supported the stack is almost perfectly.
The B70 used to sit clearly below the R9700 on that ladder, which made its software friction a rational trade. It no longer does.
The Software Status, Stated Honestly
Intel archived the ipex-llm repository on 28 January 2026. It is read-only. This is not the disaster it sounds like, and it is not nothing either.
The reason for the archive is mundane and mostly good: many of the Intel fixes were upstreamed into PyTorch 2.9, so the separate acceleration library became redundant. Intel GPUs are increasingly supported by the mainline tools rather than by a fork. The current paths for the B70 are upstream PyTorch, SYCL, OpenVINO, and vLLM-XPU, plus Vulkan and SYCL builds of llama.cpp.
What you should take from it is a support-transition risk, not a dead end. When you hit a problem on an Intel card in 2026, the stack you are debugging is younger than the equivalent on CUDA or ROCm, the guides you find may reference an archived repository, and the number of people who have hit your exact issue is smaller. That is worth a real discount. It is not worth a premium, and at $1,299 against an in-stock R9700 you are close to paying one.
Do not confuse the B60 with the B70. The Arc Pro B60 is a 24GB card. The B70 is the 32GB one. This mistake is widespread enough that it is a useful test of whether a page checked anything.
Who Should Still Buy It
There is a real buyer here, and the case is narrow but honest:
- You find one near list. At $949-1,050, the B70 is the cheapest new 32GB card by a margin that justifies the software friction. That is the whole thesis and it survives at that price.
- You are already on an Intel stack. If you run OpenVINO or vLLM-XPU in production, adding a 32GB Intel card is a smaller step for you than it is for anyone else.
- You want 32GB for capacity, not speed. 608 GB/s is well short of the 5090’s GDDR7 and far short of the MI50’s HBM2. The B70 is for fitting Qwen 3.6 27B at Q6 or Q8 with a real context window rather than for maximum tokens per second.
ASRock Intel Arc Pro B70 Creator 32GB — this is the specific SKU that moved from about $999 to $1,299. Check the live price against the ladder above before you buy; the whole recommendation depends on which side of ~$1,050 it lands on.
If the price has not come back down, the alternative is the XFX Radeon AI PRO R9700 32GB at its $1,299 MSRP, with the caveat that stock flips in and out and secondary listings run $1,403-2,500. Paying resale defeats the point of choosing it.
For the tier above, the GIGABYTE RTX 5090 WINDFORCE 32GB is the same capacity with roughly triple the bandwidth and universal CUDA support, at $4,300-5,000. That is a different budget, not a better version of this decision.
What Nobody Else Will Tell You
Two things.
First, the recommendation reversed on price alone. Hardware pages are written once and quietly assumed to stay true. In a normal year that assumption mostly holds, because parts get cheaper and a stale price makes a card look slightly worse than it is. In 2026 it fails in the dangerous direction: a stale price makes a card look better than it is, and readers act on it. The B70 is the cleanest example we have seen. Every fact in the original reviews is still accurate. The conclusion built on them is not.
Second, watch what the price ladder is actually measuring. It is tempting to read the MI50 at $120 and the 5090 at $4,500 as a performance ladder. It is not — the MI50 has more memory bandwidth than either mid-tier card. It is a support ladder. What collapsed the MI50’s price was ROCm dropping gfx906 in Q2 2024, not the silicon getting slower. That is the risk you are pricing when you buy an Intel card today, and it is the reason the B70 needs a discount to make sense rather than merely matching its rivals.
